Levolor Basic Traverse Rod Instructions
Levolor has been producing shades and blinds since 1914, and more recently has expanded its line to include decorative drapery hardware. Curtain rods come in a wide variety of styles, from the very basic to the ornate. Traverse curtain rods use a pulley system to open and close the curtains, which are attached to the rod with hooks. These rods are normally attached just above the window frame, and are suitable for pinch-pleated curtains.
Difficulty: ModerateInstructionsThings You'll Need:Measuring tapePencilElectric drillPhillips screwdriver1Measure your window frame to determine the placement of the traverse rod. The rod should extend 1 1/2 to 3 inches beyond the window frame. Measure down from the bottom holes of the bracket to determine the proper height for your curtains. Once you have measured and are sure of the proper placement of the end brackets, mark their placement with a pencil on the wall. Mark the placement of the support brackets level with the end brackets and at intervals of less than 4 feet between brackets. Use a 3/32-inch drill bit to drill pilot holes for the brackets, and mount the brackets using the screws provided.
2Count the number of ring slides on the pole. The ring slides should equal the number of pleats in each panel of the curtain, minus one. If there are too many, remove an equal number of rings from each side by pressing down on the pulley housing located on each side of the pole as you slide the rings off the pole.
3Attach the finials to the pole by first inserting the plug into the rod, then positioning and screwing in the retainer. Once both plugs are secured in place, the finials can be screwed into them.
4Loosen the arms of the brackets to receive the pole. Extend the pole and place each end onto the end bracket prongs, making sure to leave one ring slide on the outside of each end bracket. Use a screwdriver to lock the center support arm.
5Use the draw strings to move the master carriers to the outside edges of the window frame. On the carrier farthest away from the draw cord, pull the cord tight and secure it under the T-hook of the carrier. Pull the draw cords to make sure the carriages return to the center of the pole.
6Mount the pulley on the wall and pull the cord through the yoke. Insert a nail into the extended pulley to secure it in the open position. Pull the knot tight in the overlap master carrier, double-knot the pulled cord and traverse the pole. Cut excess cord if necessary, and remove the pin from the pulley.
7Extend the cord downward, loop it through the cord guide, and secure the guide to the wall using the included screw.
8Hang the curtains beginning with the inside edge of each panel. Place two pins in each master carrier, then place one pin in each ring slide, making sure the second last pin in each panel is secured on the ring slide located on the outside of the bracket. Secure the last pin on each side to the hole at the bottom of the mounted end bracket.
9Tighten the arms of each bracket with a screwdriver, beginning at the center and working outward.
