Instructions for RAR Password Cracker 3.13
RAR Password Cracker is a small utility designed to "crack" -- find the password for -- encrypted RAR archives. The main method by which it does this is to run automatically through all the different possibilities afforded by a given set of characters and a given length. This can take a very long time, but the utility can run in the background of your computer without taking up significant resources.
Difficulty: Moderately EasyInstructions1Open RAR Password Cracker using its Start Menu shortcut.
2Click "Load RAR archive," then browse to and select the archive you want to crack. A list of the archive's individual files will appear in the top window.
3Select whichever files you want to crack and click "Add to project." Usually, all the files in an archive will have the same password, and cracking only one will be necessary; however, adding multiple files to your project won't make it take any longer. If one file is marked "The most preferable file" in the "Comments" section, be sure to use that one. Click "Next."
4Select either "Dictionary" or "Bruteforce Attack." The former runs through a list of words pulled from a dictionary file which you can obtain online; the latter runs through an extremely large list of every possible combination of a given set of characters. The Bruteforce Attack, while it takes much longer, is likely to be more successful. Click "Next."
5Enter all the characters the password might use in the "Charset" box. If you know anything about the beginning or end of the password, enter that data in the boxes just below Charset. Set the minimum and maximum length of the password, and finally click "Benchmark" to get an estimate on how long checking all the necessary possibilities will take. When you're done, click "Next," then "Finish" to begin the long search.
