How to Put a Linksys Wireless G USB Adapter Into Monitor Mode

Linksys manufactures a line of wireless USB adapters that use the 802.11g protocol. When you set up one of these Wireless G Adapters on your desktop or laptop PC, you have the option of using the Windows zero configuration or the Linksys Monitor Mode for managing wireless networks. If you have previously been using the Windows zero configuration, you can put the Wireless G adapter into Monitor Mode using the system tray icon.

Make sure the Linksys Wireless G USB adapter is firmly plugged into one of the USB ports on your desktop or laptop PC.

Open the Start menu and click on "Control Panel."

Go to the "Network and Sharing Center" and click on the "Change adapter settings" link on the left side of the window.

Right click on the icon for your Linksys Wireless G adapter and choose the "Enable" option.

Locate the green Linksys icon in the system tray, which is located in the lower right corner of your desktop.

Right click on the green Linksys icon and choose the "Use Linksys Wireless Network Monitor" option. The wireless adapter will now switch into Monitor Mode.
