How to Configure a USB 2.0

A USB (Universal Serial Bus) to RS232 adapter of the serial variety comes in the form of one cable. This cable acts a serial connection that can connect a piece of hardware, such as a printer, to your laptop or desktop. If you want to configure your USB 2.0 connection properly, insert the required drivers via compact disc and plug your components in the correct slots on your computer.

Place your serial cable in the serial port of the hardware you want to attach to your laptop or desktop. Tighten the screws on the side of your cable with a screwdriver.

Connect the other end of your serial cable to the connection slot of your adapter.

Insert the USB end of your cable into an empty USB slot on your machine.

Turn on the hardware you attached, then place the compact disc that contains the adapter cable drivers in your optical drive. This opens the set-up wizard on your computer. Click the "Next" option and agree to the terms of service. Click "Enter" twice and select the "Install" function.

Remove the compact disc, then place the hardware compact disc in the drive. Follow the directions on your screen to install your serial hardware drivers to complete the process.
