How to Back Up SourceSafe

The Backup and Restore Center utility allows you to create a backup of your important files in the event they are damaged or lost from your computer. Use the utility to back up the SourceSafe version control software. Microsoft recommends using an external hard drive to store the backup files due to their large capacity and durability, however you can also store a backup on CDs, DVDs or USB storage devices.

Connect the external hard drive or other storage device to the computer.

Click "Start," type "backup and restore" into the search field and press "Enter." Click the "Set up backup" icon in the window that opens.

Select the external hard drive in the destination window and click "Next."

Click the "Let Me Choose" option to open a selection dialogue. Select the "Microsoft Visual SourceSafe" entry in the window and click "Next."

Click "Save settings and run backup" to back up the SourceSafe software.
