Usually, you have to take your computer to a repair shop and pay the expensive fees to retrieve your data. There are, however, tools that allow you to recover lost data yourself, and many of these tools are free to use.Automatic RecoveryThis is a free tool from Microsoft that allows you to restore your computer if the Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) does not install correctly. If XP SP2 does not install correctly, you cannot get your computer to boot and you cannot access your data. The Automatic Recovery tool is stored on your Microsoft Windows XP CD, and you insert this disk in your CD or DVD drive when you are booting up your computer. The tool will delete the SP2 pack and reset your computer to the previous version.Outlook AutoCompleteThis tool allows you to recover lost Outlook contacts from the Outlook.nk file, and you can use this file to recover files from corrupt Personal Storage Table (PST) files, which are the main storage file folders for Outlook. You can run a free recovery scan on your computer to see which contacts you can recover, but you must purchase the program to actually recover the contacts. As of 2010, this program cost $49.DiskGetorThe DiskGetor Data Recover 2.05 is a freeware program, which means that you can use and share this program without paying a licensing fee, and this tool allows you to retrieve lost or deleted data, including items sent to the Recycle Bin. This program will recover files and folders, and it will also automatically add the correct file extensions to the files. You can run full scans on your computer or run the auto fast scan, which recovers all deleted data. This program can also recover data from reformatted hard drives or disk partitions.QvPicRecover.exeThe Casio Image Recovery Tool (QvPicRecover.exe) is an auto recovery tool that retrieves lost, corrupt or deleted images, and this tool is compatible with Windows. To use this tool, however, you must download it and save it in the folder with the Photo Loader Image Library, which is usually located in C:Program FilesCASIOPhoto Loader. Once you retrieve your lost images, you should open and save the recovered images before deleting any corrupt images. This is a free tool that you can download from the Casio website.
